Bowling Course

The academy operates every Sunday morning at Cavendish Park Bowling and Social Club in Bispham, offering people the opportunity to learn to play Crown Green Bowls.
Crown Green Bowling is a light exercise, non-contact sport that offers anyone the chance to compete in a sport whilst improving their health and well-being.
We offer a bowling course approved by the Bowls Development Alliance that covers everything required to play this sport competently.
You will learn the basic rules of the game, how to find the correct size bowls to suit yourself and how to hold the bowl correctly. You will also learn how to deliver the bowl correctly to reach the target.
The course is spread over four weeks and is presented in a light-hearted but informative way. At the end of the course, you will feel confident enough to compete in a game.

Sizing a Crown Green Bowl

Sizing a bowl to suit your hand is very important as the wrong size will not feel comfortable in the hand and will affect your bowling.
To check if a bowl is correct for you, try this.
Hold the bowl in front of you at waist level. Put your thumbs together on the running line of the bowl. Turn the bowl upwards and put your middle fingers together on the running line.
If your fingers meet comfortably the bowl will feel OK in your hand.
If your fingers do not meet, the bowl is too large.
If you have a big gap between your fingers and the bowl, it is too small.

Our course is popular and we are pleased to see new candidates every week.
